James Schaefer

James P. Schaefer is a counsel at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, LLP. Mr. Schaefer handles complex civil litigation at both the trial and appellate level. Mr. Schaefer's practice involves a diverse range of subjects, including unfair business practices, antitrust, trade secret misappropriation, class actions, and patent and copyright infringement. Mr. Schaefer's current focus is litigating consumer class actions, alleged violations of California's Unfair Competition Law (commonly known as the UCL or Section 17200), and antitrust claims related to the enforcement of intellectual property rights.

Prior to joining Skadden, Mr. Schaefer clerked for the Honorable Carlos T. Bea, United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and the Honorable Susan G. Braden, United States Court of Federal Claims. Mr. Schaefer also served as a Judge Advocate in the United States Marine Corps, where his last assignment was as the Senior Defense Counsel, Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia.

Mr. Schaefer graduate summa cum laude from George Mason University School of Law in 2002.
