Ms. Daria J. Zane was appointed as Special Master in February 2011 and entered on duty in March 2011. Before her appointment, Ms. Zane was an Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) for the District of Columbia. During her tenure as an AUSA, Ms. Zane handled both criminal and civil matters at the appellate and trial levels in federal and local courts in the District of Columbia. She also served as an Assistant General Counsel for the Executive Office for United States Attorneys, representing United States Attorneys across the country in civil and administrative matters and providing legal advice to them. Prior to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Ms. Zane was a trial attorney for the United States Department of Justice, Environment and Natural Resources Division. There she was trial counsel in civil actions involving public lands and natural resources in the Court of Federal Claims as well as federal district courts and state courts throughout the nation.
Ms. Zane graduated from the George Washington University Law School with honors where she was a school finalist in the Van Vleck Moot Court Competition. Upon graduation, Ms. Zane served as law clerk to the Honorable Noël Anketell Kramer of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.
Ms. Zane was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Maryland, graduating summa cum laude. She has also taken graduate classes at Trinity University, Washington, D.C., where she played on the varsity soccer team.
For several years, Ms. Zane has been a member of the faculty of the National Institute for Trial Advocacy (NITA) Trial Skills program. She is a member of the bar in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Florida.
